Wilshire taped off b/w Western & Manhattan

Sunday, December 18th, 2011

Sunday morning at a little before 10:00 am, LAPD received a report about a suspicious package in front of Christ Church on the street known as Manhattan Place, just north of Wilshire, a block west of Western Avenue.

Address: 635 S Manhattan Place, Los Angeles 90010

The LA Police Department sent in the bomb unit to take a look at it, and as a precautionary measure, part of Wilshire Boulevard between Manhattan Place and Western Avenue was closed to traffic.

The area is technically just west of Koreatown proper, according to boundaries set by the City Council in 2010.

As the annual fall carnival  of the LAPD was winding down its first night on Olympic & Vermont, another gang-related shooting occurred late Friday at around 10:20 pm in the Pico-Union district, on the southern edge of Koreatown proper.

The shooting happened on Pico Boulevard corner Mariposa Avenue, almost right in front of the Catholic church St. Thomas the Apostle.

There were two victims, both taken to the hospital — one was shot in the left arm and was listed in stable condition. The other victim was shot in the leg and in the upper torso and is still in serious condition.

An unknown type of handgun was used. The getaway car was a dark-colored Honda.

The area of Pico Boulevard from Normandie to Fedora was still taped off and unpassable to vehicles and pedestrians as of 12:15 am with police still investigating the crime scene.

Both the victims and the shooter(s) were identified by LAPD as male Hispanics.
