Koreatown Laundry Room Bandits on Video

Tuesday, October 25th, 2011

LAPD has just released video of thieves who’ve been stealing quarters from laundry rooms in apartments buildings in Koreatown and other areas of Los Angeles.

On Sunday, September 18, 2011, during the evening hours, surveillance cameras captured two suspects prying open an apartment building’s front door located in the 400 block of South Hoover Street. Believed to be a boyfriend and girlfriend, they entered the laundry rooms in a secured apartment complex. Once inside, the male suspect pried open the coin-operated washers and dryers, while the female suspect acted as a lookout. The male emptied the coin trays into the female’s purse, then carefully replaced the tray back into the units. Both suspects have been identified on three similar burglaries in the Palms and Koreatown areas of Los Angeles and are believed to be involved in several more.

The male suspect is pf Hispanic or Armenian descent, 18 to 25 years of age with black hair.  He stands about 5 feet 7 inches tall and weighs about 160 to 170 pounds. He was wearing a checkered buttoned shirt and dark pants.  The female suspect is described as Hispanic, between 18 to 25 years of age with black hair.  She stands about 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 160 to 170 pounds.  She was last seen wearing a striped gray and black blouse and black pants. On the same date, both suspects committed a similar burglary in the Palms area of LA.

The suspects took several hundred dollars in quarters from the washer and dryers.  They are believed to be serial burglars responsible for numerous other burglaries and thefts in the last couple of months throughout the west side of Los Angeles.

Anyone with information about this crime or who can help identify any of the suspects is asked to call Rampart Division’s Detective Prieto at (213) 484-3486. During non-business hours, call 1-877-LAPD-24-7 (1-877-527-3247).

At a little before 1:00 am Monday, a Hispanic male of between 27 and 33 years old approached to another, slightly younger Hispanic male at 728 S Berendo Street. They proceeded to argue and the first man shot the second man several times. Residents of the area heard four to six shots.

The victim fell to the ground and was bleeding profusely when LAPD arrived. Initially, bystanders assumed that the man was hit only in the arm, but paramedics discovered multiple gunshots throughout his body, including to his abdomen.

Persons called 9-1-1 reporting that a man was running towards Wilshire fleeing away from the scene. Others called in to say that the suspect had driven away in a Nissan or a Honda.

As of 2:00 AM, there is still no news on the condition of the victim (an admitted gang member) or that the suspect has been tracked. The crime scene seems contained to a limited area, so the LAPD may not need to block off the street. No police helicopter was sent out because of the fog.

Address: 728 S Berendo St, Los Angeles, CA 90005

More details to be added as soon as they become available. The last gang-related shooting in the area was Friday night on Pico and Normandie.
