Hawaiian Chicken at 2009 Koreatown Festival

When you enter the festival grounds of Seoul International Park from the north, this is the sight that greets you. Dozens of whole chickens roasting on an an open spit courtesy of Hawaiian Chicken. They say they can cook 1,000 chickens in less than three hours! 하와이안 숯불구이 통닭

It’s Hawaiian-style Huli-Huli BBQ Chicken grilled using quality Kiawe charcoal. Huli-Huli is Hawaiian for ‘turn, turn.’

The restaurant was chosen by the editors of the the Los Angeles Downtown News as Best Cooked Chicken in downtown LA. It also has fresh mangosteen juice called Xango™ but the booth at the festival doesn’t have it.

TBBC Barbecue serves Buldak Fire Chicken

TBBC Barbecue (티비비씨 바베큐) is a bul-dalk (불닭 = “fire chicken”) restaurant on Western Avenue. Buldalk, also spelled in English as buldak or puldak, is a Korean food fad of the last decade in which chicken pieces like drumsticks are very heavily spiced with red-pepper powder. The “fire” refers to how hot and spicy the chicken is.

TBBC grills the chicken pieces over charcoal and then smothers them with barbecue sauce. Also serves herb chicken, wings and french fries. Take-out available.

The acronym TBBC stands for Top Brand Best Corporation, according to the CEO. It’s a restaurant chain in South Korea.
