Machete Incident at Beverly/Berendo

Saturday, October 22nd, 2011

At a little before 4:00 am Saturday morning the 22nd of October 2011, LAPD received a call about an ADW (assault with a deadly weapon) at Beverly and Berendo. They arrived to find a man stabbing another man inside a taco truck.

They tried to get the suspect to stop. He wouldn’t, so they tried to subdue him with a Taser gun, but it had no effect on him. LAPD had no choice but to shoot him.

Piecing together what happened earlier based on eyewitness reports, LAPD says the victim was a customer at the taco truck. The suspect approached and started hacking at him with a machete. The people inside the truck ran out. The suspect then dragged the victim into the truck and tried to drive away. The truck hit several vehicles before coming to a stop.

Still no word on the whether the suspect was under the influence of alcohol or narcotics or what his mental state was. No certainty yet on whether the victim and suspect knew each other — it looks like they didn’t.

The victim suffered several deep cuts and was taken to a local hospital where he is now in stable condition.

The crime scene on Beverly Boulevard between Catalina and Berendo was closed to traffic until 4:00 pm.

This incident is unrelated to last night’s gang shooting on Pico/Normandie and is unrelated to the Pho 2000 incident on North Western Avenue this mid-morning.
