This is the Wang brand of 미역 (miyok), which you can use to make 미역국 (miyeok-guk), a seaweed soup traditionally eaten on one’s birthday and given to Korean women who have just given birth. The Japanese call this kind of seaweed wakame. It’s different from the seawood used to wrap sushi — that seaweed is called nori in Japanese and kim in Korean.
The packaged seaweed has been dried with salt. You will need to reconstitute it by soaking in water. Soak longer and rinse more if you don’t want it to be too salty.
Cooking Directions (English on the package): 1. Rinse the seaweed in water, place into cold water for 5 to 10 minutes and drain the water. 2. Cook for seaweed soup, seaweed cold soup, seaweed wrapped rice, roast seaweed and other dishes.
The dishes mentioned are translations of the Korean 미역국, 미역초무침, 미역냉국, 볶음 등 갖가지 요리
